Homework
A big focus in second grade is increasing independence and responsibility for materials. Each student is responsible for writing down the weekly spelling words and the daily homework in his or her agenda.
All students are asked to read for 20 minutes each night. In addition they will complete an assignment related to what we are learning at school.
Wake County's expectation is that students in second grade spend 20 minutes on homework and another 20 reading. If at any time your child is unable to complete an assignment in the time limit, please just draw a line across the page where he or she stopped. This is powerful information for me! It gives me an opportunity to meet with your child on that skill to practice, as needed.
Homework is not graded for accuracy. We will go over our homework assignment in class, together. Each student is responsible for checking and correcting his or her own work.
Homework should never be a source of frustration. It should be all about practice! If you find your child is having difficulty with homework assignments please communicate this to me!
