Important Information
School Hours:
School will officially begin at 8:30 a.m. If your child enters the room after this time, he or she will be considered tardy. We will begin dismissal at 3:00 p.m.
Transportation:
Please keep me updated throughout the year on any transportation changes that may occur. If your child has any change, please send a note or call the school. I may not have time to access the internet, so email is not a good source of communication for this matter.
Weekly Folders:
We will be sending school-wide folders home on Friday. Please be sure to look over any informative papers. Return the folder on Monday.
BYOD:
After the first three weeks of school, BYOD will be an option for students in our classroom. We will use devices to enhance our learning and collaboration when applicable, but will avoid excessive screen time during the school day.
Lunch:
If you plan on having your child buy a lunch, please keep the account updated. In my experience, second graders get very upset when they do not have lunch money. Borrowing from the PTA is allowed no more than 4 times per year.
We love to have visitors for lunch! We have several busy transitions just before lunch. Please help us to be on time by meeting us at the Croc Cafe!
Birthdays and Special Events:
You must schedule with me if you choose to bring in a birthday treat. Treats may not be served in the cafeteria. A good time to share a treat with the class is first thing in the morning or during our recess. This also allows me ample time to address any special dietary needs of classmates.
All items must be store bought. Homemade foods may not be served to the class. If you bring cupcakes, please consider bringing two bite cupcakes.
Snack:
Please send in a healthy snack for your child. Cookies, cakes, and other sugary foods do not provide the brain boost we are looking for!
Water bottles are welcome in our classroom! Students may work with them at their desks, provided they do not cause a distraction from our important work. Please do not send juice or other beverages as when they spill they are difficult to clean from our carpet.
If you are interested in donating extra snacks, please do! It's nice to have a snack or two tucked away for days that a student forgets a snack.
Volunteers:
Please make sure that you have completed your volunteer clearance through Wake County. Parent involvement is encouraged and welcomed at Sycamore Creek Elementary. There will be opportunities for volunteering throughout the year such as help with special projects, Friday folders, room parents, and small group work.
Protecting the instructional periods of the day is also a priority for our school. Please refrain from popping into your child's classroom during the school day without prior arrangements. We ask that you help us ensure the instructional day is protected and not interrupted so we can provide the best education for your child.
