What a whirlwind of a week it was!
I missed out on two days with the kiddos due to my conference in Washington DC. I missed being here but goodness gracious did I learn some great new tricks that were content focused especially for 2nd grade. It was an incredible experience! While I was away, the kids were in great hands with Ms. Oliver and Ms. Grady!
In Math this week we wrapped up multi digit subtraction. Our next unit is on word problems, so addition and subtraction aren't exactly over- we're just moving into a new type of problem! I have some great new tools to give word problems some structure for our class and I'm excited to try something new this year!
In Reading we really focused on answering written comprehension questions to fit a text. We used our class anthologies to practice using all of our fiction reading skills and put them to paper.
In Writing the kids worked on a special text based writing project with the substitutes to practice paragraph writing. It also gave us time to really look at our classroom and examine how we are alike and how we are different. When I returned we jumped right back in to our book reviews and we are almost done!
In Science we began our unit of study on sound. We laid the groundwork with lots of vocabulary and establishing what we already know (or THINK we know). Now we can build on our knowledge and correct our misconceptions.
