We had a great week in 2nd grade! We got to see S.T.E.M. the Musical (THANK YOU PTA!) and we tried a new writing game called "Foghorn" that was a big hit! Foghorn requires kids to be flexible with their writing. When the foghorn sounds, they must introduce a new idea into their writing based on a picture showed to them (such as the giant chickens I posted on our Class Story).
In reading this week we practiced book club jobs, as when we return from track out each student will have a chance to really dig in to a chapter book with a group of peers. We are learning the responsibilities of each position within the book club so we will be ready to start when we return- and have plenty of time to finish our novels!
In writing this week we finished up our book reviews. Students had peer editing sessions where they looked for things they enjoyed about their peer's reviews (easy!) and a way their friend could improve their writing (so much harder to do!).
In math we have worked so hard on story problems! We are using a PSA checklist to help us make sure we don't miss a thing- Problem (highlight only the most important words), solve (go after that solution!), answer (double check your answer by solving again!).
In science we have learned about how we use sounds to communicate. We know that all sounds begin with vibrations, and used a video by The Piano Guys to identify how instruments work (and how to get creative with instruments when playing!)
