Welcome back everyone!
Thank you so much for spoiling me for my birthday! All the cards and sweet notes made me feel so very special!
Friday the 11th was a great day in our room! We had our first classroom transformation! We spent the entire day in "Kyle's Kitchen". I wore an apron and served the students. They created meal tickets adding up money (using calculators), made and cut pizzas into fractions, attended a book tasting to choose their novels for literature circles, digested a procedural text (recipe), and worked on our OREO opinion writing. It really was a blast!
This week in reading we continued working on procedural texts using flow maps to organize our thoughts and visualize how steps are connected.
In writing, we finished up our reviews- next week the kids will get a chance to publish during Daily 5 on our new CHROME BOOKS!
In math we continued practicing partitioning- which we know is a fancy way of saying fractions, or dividing. We used rectangles this week and really focused on columns, rows, and fair shares.
In science we are working with Mrs. Zaccagnini's class to create instruments using what we learned about sound and vibration. Students are planning and engineering their own instruments this week. Next week they'll have to put them into practice!
