This week in reading we moved forward with our LAST 2nd grade objective! We are learning all about folktales- fables specifically. This week we learned about morals and read several of Aesop's fables. The good news- reading end of year testing is all done for us!
In writing students are using what they know about fairy tales (another type of folktale) to write a fractured fairy tale of their own. Basing their story on a well known classic, they are making small changes to create an entirely new writing piece!
In math we continued our study of measurement by exploring the metric system. Today kicked off our measurement Olympics! We used everything we know to estimate and measure distance in paper airplane toss, cotton ball throw, paper discus, and straw javelin. We will finish up on Monday!
We also finished our study of maps this week! We looked at digital maps also, using google maps and google Earth to explore how maps have changed over time! I encourage you to use Google Earth- it's a great way to "visit" famous places and the kids loved it!
